at Uplands Allotments, Handsworth, B21 8EX.
Our annual walk, to connect with our local environment, and learn about local faith & low-carbon initiatives – all welcome.
This year we will be visiting Uplands Allotments in Handsworth to learn about growing sustainable food, and the role of bees.
Allotment committee member Malcolm Currie will walk us round part of the site – the ground is rough in places, and gently sloping. We will have the chance to chat to a few plot holders and hear about the issues facing them due to climate change and how they try to protect the natural environment e.g. by conserving water and not using harmful chemicals. It will include a visit to the bee hives, owned by Malcolm’s wife, Balbir Currie.
We will finish with a cup of tea outside (weather permitting). Please bring biscuits or cake to share if you can.
Children are welcome and are the responsibility of parents or carers.
Save the date – details of how to register will be available nearer the time. We will be taking note of government guidelines, and providing an update to make sure everyone stays safe.
Travel: Bus 101 from city centre – Colmore Row, to Oxhill Rd (almost the terminus). Parking available on site.
Toilets: available in clubhouse on site.
Access: Part of the route through the site is tarmac and therefore accessible to wheelchair users. Other parts are rough but accessible by car.
