Awards for Footsteps Members & Friends

Many congratulations to Toqueer Ahmed Quyyam who came second (1st runner up) in the Environment Champion section of the  Community Inspiration Awards 2022 ceremony at the Al Miraj Banqueting Suite in Small Heath on Tuesday 29th March 2022.

Award winners came from across the Midlands.  Toqueer was nominated by Footsteps, Birmingham and Black Country Wildlife Trust and other groups that he volunteers with.   The awards attracted large numbers of nominations so to come second was a great achievement and tribute to Toqueer’s enthusiasm and dedication!

This follows Ruth Tetlow being awarded The Hubert Walter Award for Reconciliation and Interfaith Cooperation on 7th March by the Archbishop of Canterbury for ‘her outstanding contribution to interfaith relations in Birmingham over four decades‘. You can see press release and  the full citation for Ruth’s award.

We are all very grateful for all the work that Ruth has done over the years to promote interfaith relationships in Birmingham, and latterly as Footsteps chair.

Congratulations also to two other ‘friends of Footsteps’ at the Community Inspiration Awards.  Professor Rashid Gatrad (WASUP founder) who supported our 2019 Tread Lightly conference at the Shree Ram Mandir was the winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award presented by West Midlands Mayor, Andy Street.  Patricia Earle also received an award for her interfaith and peace work in Birmingham.

Well done Toqueer, Ruth, Rashid and Patricia!
