What’s the right energy saving action for you?

Energy Saving Flashcards

To help you find the right energy saving action for you, Footsteps has developed sets of energy saving flash cards that give basic information about a wide range of ways to save energy and reduce bills.

The cards have been developed over the past three years, drawing information from a range of sources, and progressing the format to make this info accessible and helpful to people.  They are available to download, for viewing on screen, showing as slide or for printing and cutting into 4x A6 cards.

The cards can be used for information and to start conversations about energy saving with your faith group or local community in a variety of ways, such as:

  • As ‘conversation starters’ at community events, or energy cafes;
  • Shared when talking about changes you’ve made at your faith building, to encourage community members to make change at home;
  • Distributed at local community hubs, health centres or places of welcome;
  • Included in Foodbank parcels or available at foodbanks;
  • As part of take home packs from workshops and events (given with other freebies such as draught proofing materials);
  • As part of a training pack for volunteers that are acting as energy champions or going into people’s homes.

For example, Footsteps will use selected cards as part of an Energy Club, being planned at Adam Mosque, Sparkbrook, as a GrassRoutes Eco-action Project.

Many thanks to Brum Energy for support to get the flash cards finished. The Energy Club above will be a direct consequence of Footsteps’ involvement with BrumEnergy and MECC. Footsteps is also indebted to the Centre for Sustainable Energy, Citizens Advice Bureau, Energy Saving Trust, Birmingham Energy Advice Manual and other sources as well as the knowledge and experience of Footsteps members. BCU Design for Future Living and Sustainable Housing  Graduates, Mia-Ming Steel and Harrison Laurie also made valuable research, content and design contributions.
