Following Faiths for Fun, Footsteps was asked to provide a ‘Faiths for Fun base’ type activity for the 313th Birmingham Sikh Scouts that meets at Hamstead Hall Academy. We had been approached by the Beaver Scout Leader, Varinder Kaur Badhan, initially to provide an activity for 6 – 8-year-old Beaver Scouts but the request was then extended to cover 7 Beavers, 12 Cubs aged 8 – 10 and 12 Scouts 10 – 14.
Ruth, Toqueer and Chris were there from Footsteps. The four ‘bases’ were (Base 1) Ruth – Faiths and the environment based on ‘faith’ flash card and making a collage, (Base 3) Toqueer – Energy saving – same as Faiths for Fun, (Base 4) Chris – Saving energy by reducing food waste – a new set of three flash cards and (Base 4), Varinder – giving energy champion badge, making a commitment and energy bingo.
The mix of bases / activities seemed to work well and the way in the groups went to the bases in a different order did not affect the scouts’ experiences. The all-age groups also worked, especially for the younger scouts.
