To help you find the right energy saving action for you, Footsteps has developed sets of energy saving flash cards. Each flash card has links & QR codes to additional sources of information. Most links go direct to the source of the information, but for those where that was not possible, you can find the relevant information on this page.
Paying Bills 6: Consumer Rights – Payment Methods
From the Birmingham Energy Advice Manual:
Consumer Rights – payment methods
Energy Suppliers are obliged to offer a range of payment methods. These include:
- Direct debit
- Payment on receipt of bill
- Monthly payment scheme
- Prepayment meters
- Fuel direct
Fuel direct is a payment method, where payments for fuel and fuel debt are deducted from social security benefits. It is considered a payment method of last resort and is only available when other methods of debt repayment have been tried and failed.
Prepayment meter cards can be topped up at the following outlets:
- Post Office
- PayPoint
- PayZone
Not all of these payment methods are available for customers of all energy suppliers. For example, British Gas customers cannot use Pay Point, Utilita customers cannot use the Post Office.
