All are welcome to join our annual interfaith walk, to connect with creation and learn about an environmental initiative.
This year we are visiting Highbury Park near King’s Heath, with Friends of the Park guiding us through the conservation features of the park, and concluding with a visit to the local Orchard Project. They describe the park as:
“a haven for wildlife as well as for people. Grassland, ancient hedgerows, marshland, scrub, streams, pools and remnants of woodland are all to be found in the park as well as a host of ornamental trees and shrubs. These habitats are home to a wide range of plants and animals.”
There will be two assembly points at 2.00 pm.
If you are coming on a No 50 or 35 bus along the Alcester Road, get off at the Valentine Rd / High Street bus stop in Kings Heath and assembly by, or in sight of, the Highbury Park sign just down the path running alongside the construction site for the new station where you will be met by Footsteps.
If you need to come by car assemble in the car park off Shutlock Lane.
Bring water and suitable footwear and clothes for the weather – it will be a light walk over gentle terrain.
Bring a drink and some snacks that we can enjoy together at the end of the walk. Enjoy conversations together.

Travel:
- Bus: 50 or 35 from city centre (outside Selfridges) to Valentine Rd / High Street – see assembly point above.
- Cycle: follow the River Rea cycle route (NCR5) to Moor Green Lane, turn up Dads Lane. In the car park there are railings where bikes can be locked – access is near the junction of Shutlock Lane and Dads Lane. Alternatively there are cycle racks outside the library and police station on King’s Heath High St, then join the assembly point for the bus above.
- Parking: access to the car park is near the junction of Shutlock Lane and Dads Lane.
Toilets: There are no public toilets at the park, but there is a basic composting toilet that will be open at the Orchard.
Access: Part of the route through the park is tarmac and therefore accessible to wheelchair users. However, some parts of the park including the orchard do not have accessible paths.
